Trendy hairstyles of 2012: Reviving the old glory with a modern touch

Hair is one of the most important features about one self that defines individuality. Fabulous looks could be created keeping in mind natural hair texture and face cut. Almost into the middle of the year, styles that have turned heads are assumed to be revival of 20th Century style with quality infusion and mixing. From long curl to the Bob cuts of 60’s-70’s, 2012 hair trends are all about reliving retro age with some modern touch ups. So much could be done with almost any hair length; here is what is trendy this year.

For longhair lengths, with no indifference to color, the ‘’homemade curls’’ are really in this year. Giving a casual, classy and simple look, they catch attention yet are not too bold for any setting. Most suitable for long straight or wavy hair, curls give a young girlish and upbeat look. “Classic French Twist” is back in town again along with various classic ponytails like the 1960’s ponytail or the “Equestrian ponytail”. The twist could be dressed up or down, adorned with hair accessories and can be improvised with bangs, side curls, coils or twists and best for a formal occasion or wedding. A snazzy side pony like the Veronica in Cocktail (Deepika Padukone) can be pulled off to any cocktail and nightclub party. Simple and easy to do “Side pinned Waves” has also touched the spring runway for long hair. ” Pressed Straightened hair “, with fringes in front, like Kagna Renaut’s hair in No Problem can reflect vivaciousness.

If all this is too much to handle, time consuming, simple, messy “Side braid plait” is best choice, best part about it, the messier the better, so no worries about the crazy wind. Textured side braid as it is also called, is suited for mid long straight and wavy hair. For stylish, little understated look, try the Meera’s hairdo from cocktail, ‘’the Side braid”, it would be perfect for long, thick hair. Something one can pull off daily to work place yet look trendy. Also, for mid length hair, the “Twist hairstyles” along with “wet- look chignon”, or the Ashley Green, “loose side Chignon” is set for the year. For those who love the tomboyish and carefree look, a perfect match of nonchalant and simple, easy going look, the Tomboy ponytail is in trend for 2012. Safe, for both long and mid length hair, layers with highlights are in the season. May it be Priyanka Chopra, Dia Mirza, or Aishwarya Rai Bachhann this style is all over the B-Town.

Lastly for the short hair, there is wide range of styles from “Mod bob, Afro hair and Rock crop haircut.” Like Messy side braid, for short hair “Mod bob” is perfect or little neater and proper the bob that Priyanka adored in Pyaar Impossible is just great. Giving volume to hair, this 1960 trend is definitely upbeat. 1970’s “Afro” is back in town too. For bolder look try out the Rakhi Sawanth’s bob cut inspired from Rihana, bold and ravenous is the word. If you love B-Town hairstyles, Priyanka’s hair cut in Anjaana Anjaani, feather with bangs in front or the indie fringes bang, giving messy look, all in all cool girl’s interpretation is perfect.

So go get yourself a new look, fusion of one or two styles, retaining the classy look and yet adding a new element. You can match and mix with hair accessories and add some color or highlights. Stay trendy and Jazzy!

Mane Story:Tips and myths

“I moved from Bangalore to Chennai a few months back and this place is so hot and the water is hard ,its so difficult to manage a hairstyle. Now I just tie a bun and be happy "says Richa Sharma an IT professional.

“Your hair are like a plant you have to nurture them for them to look beautiful. We don’t realize how much we mistreat them due to negligence and wrong mindset”says Benny,Regional Trainer,Naturals,Chennai.

Here are some tips and myths associated with hair care suggested by him.

Quick Tips:

Shampoo only when required. There is no rule as to how often one must shampoo. But remember shampooing too much only  generates more oil.

Benny,Regional Trainer,Naturals,Chennai
Use professional shampoos. Most of the shampoos in the market are moisture based-->Lead to oil /frizziness problems.

Use warm water for Chennai  water. But make sure its not too hot. That could damage y our hair.

Conditioner is a must for every wash.Hair holds three layers
-cuticle
-cortex
-medulla.

The top most layer,Cuticle protects your hair from outside damage. It swells up when you shampoo and seals when you condition.Hence conditioning Avoids frizzy hair and loss of color on hair tips.

Change in city, don’t change shampoo immediately. If water doesn’t suit you give it time and then consult a hair expert.

Have a hair cut once every 40 days.A haircut not only fastens your hair growth but also keeps your hair healthy by cutting out split ends and dry tips.

Always consult a hair expert. For many of us hair problems are mostly psychological. It is highly recommedaed that before any shampoo change or experiment with your hair, first ask a hair expert.

Tackling Myths associated with hair care.

Shampooing twice:Not a good idea.Your hair lose color and there is nothing like the second wash removes soap better. Its all psychological.

Shampooing everyday :Depends on your hair. But not a good idea.

Using a lot of shampoo will clean better:However dirty your hair are, long hair need not more than 16 ml ,mid length 8 ml and short hair 4 ml shampoo. If lather is not forming  add more water but definitely not more shampoo.

Change shampoo every 6 months:Advisable only if your using a damage repair shampoo

Using damage repair shampoos for every wash:If you wash your hair every alternate day it is advisable to use such shampoos once or twice a week and regular shampoo otherwise.

Coloring leads to white hair:Color is decided by the skin.Color molecules are too big to enter the skin.Even water cant go through the scalp what can color do to your hair.

 Styling tips

Straightening or rebonding?.If your hair are wavy go in for straightening but if your hair are very curly rebonding  is a better idea.

Zero maintenance hair style?.Shoulder level layering .Tie a bun when you wake up in the morning ,do your work then open it.You’ll get nice curls.

Extensions or coloring?.People who  want to avoid chemicals can go in for extensions but its very temporary ,coloring enhances a persons personality so it is always a better option.

One good haircut for all occasions suggested this season:

Classic bob for short hair and
 Inversion layering for long hair.
