Jab Tak Hai Jaan – A movie much awaited even before the name was
decided. A movie that promised breathtaking locations, SRK’s comeback to
romance, a timeless love story and much more. A movie that was constantly being
reviewed from the time the SRK-Katrina picture came out, the 10 second teaser
that was released, to another of Gulzar’s great works that is the poem Jab Tak
Hai Jaan.
So, the question remains: how does one write a review for a movie
that is said to be beyond time and life, a story of eternal love that is
associated with some of the biggest stars and the legacy that Is Yash Chopra?
To start with, Jab Tak Hai Jaan is the story of Samar Anand, a
major in the Indian Army, who during his struggling days as a busker falls in
love with Meera, a rich London-based Indian. It is love at first sight for him
and they are happily in love until Samar has an accident that ultimately
leads to their separation. Furious, he joins the Bomb Squad and decides to face
death everyday. Around the time of his 98th bomb, Akeera, a student of
journalism, enters his life. She joins his team to make a documentary on his
life. What follows is a love triangle, two similar accidents, memory loss and
everything that is nothing new to an Ekta Kapoor fan.

The Script
In an attempt at making the movie an ultimate fairytale romance, love was portrayed as
a matter of windfall gain where
Meera and Samar stay apart for 10 years because of a
promise she made to God.
Predictability
The story may be an ode to love, but every intense scene has a build up that leads to small
nothings.
Flawed Logic
• The movie
starts off with Akeera, a National level swimmer, standing on a rock surrounded
by water, who then freaks out when she realizes the water is too cold. It makes
one wonder how she reached the rock in the first place.
• Major Samar Anand refuses to wear his bomb suit and
the scene has such a studly build
up, but in which nation’s
army is this allowed, we wonder.(Do check out the consequences of this flawed logic here)
• One would think
that the heights of flawed logic were already reached when the lead characters
separated because of a promise to God. But the movie proves us wrong yet again
when the Police officials of London allow a passerby (SRK) to diffuse a bomb.

hours seem too long for a movie with such a simple story.

Just when the
whole movie is over and your wondering wether you like the movie or not,A
video of Yashji’s Last direction starts to play.It leaves the audience
dishearted and some weeping at the loss of the ‘King Of Romance’
.Suddenly the only thing in your mind is “Thank god Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Happened”.His Last Movie and the end of an era of timeless Romance.You
will be missed Yashji.
